JONATHAN WHITTON received both the 2008 Back Stage Bistro Award and Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs (MAC) Awards for Outstanding Debut, Jonathan has played standing room only engagements in numerous major American cities and has sung in such NYC venues as The Duplex, The Reprise Room at Dillon's, The Triad, The Laurie Beechman Theatre, Highline Ballroom, Birdland, BB Kings Blues Club and Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall. His sparkling 2007 NYC Cabaret Debut PERFECT FINITE is captured on his first CD - JONATHAN WHITTON: LIVE AT THE LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE was also nominated for a 2008 MAC Award for Best Recording. SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL, his second cabaret, ran throughout 2008 at The Laurie Beechman Theatre.

New York Credits include UNDERWEAR: A SPACE MUSICAL (Fringe NYC), THE YELLOW WOOD (New World Stages/NAMT Festival), and acclaimed turns as Hedwig in HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH (Highline Ballroom & BB Kings). He recieved a Midtown International Theatre Festival Nomination for "Outstanding Actor in a Musical" for orginating the role of Hamilton in the New York Premiere of THE STREET.

Since the age of 5, he has performed in well over 100 plays in theaters across the US, UK, and Canada including Charlotte Repertory, Flat Rock Playhouse, Vermont Stage, Saratoga Shakespeare, Curtain Call Theatre, HMT, Channel Z Productions, and Trustus Theatre, to name a few.  Favorite onstage credits include THE LAST FIVE YEARS (Jaimie, Regional Premiere), CABARET (2x as Emcee), HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH (Hedwig, Southeastern Premiere), THE SANTALAND DIARIES (Crumpet), GREATER TUNA (Various Roles), PICASSO AT THE LAPIN AGILE (Picasso), VISITING MR. GREEN (Ross, Regional Premiere), A NEW BRAIN (Gordon), TRANSPARENCY OF VAL (Rudi, World Premiere), THREE SISTERS (Kulygin), and TORCH SONG TRILOGY (Ed).

An accomplished director, he has also directed regional and international premiere productions of URINETOWN: THE MUSICAL, A MAN OF NO IMPORTANCE (Upstate NY Premiere), HELLO AGAIN (Southeastern Premiere), PHAEDRA’S LOVE (East Coast US Premiere), THE LARAMIE PROJECT (Collegiate Premiere), and HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH (Vermont & Montreal Premieres).

Whitton trained at the British American Dramatic Academy in London and earned a B.S. in Theatre from Skidmore College where he received the Margaret Ellen Clifford Memorial Prize in Theatre. He has held administrative titles at such notable theatres as Off-Broadway’s Second Stage Theatre, Signature Theatre Company, Manhattan Theatre Club, and Saratoga Stages where he worked with such accomplished companies as The Barrow Group and LAByrinth Theatre Company.  He was an Associate Producer for the Capital Region workshop of THE TRICKY PART (Obie Award Winner, GLAAD Media, Outer Critics Circle & Drama Desk nominations for Best Off-Broadway Play).

Also an educator, Jonathan has guest lectured and/or lead theatre workshops for private and public schools up and down the East Coast, as well as for the National Center for Independent School Renewal.  He has served on the teaching faculty at The Gailer School (Burlington, VT), and has taught adult and children’s acting classes for Saratoga Springs' Homemade Theater, Saratoga Mentoring, Channel Z Productions, and Capital Region's BOCES Arts-In-Education Project Enrich Program.
